Dreaming of Seafood and Warm Gulf Breezes

It's cold and dreary. The holidays are over. The grass is brown. Trees are bare. The country is a powder keg of angry emotions. I don't know about you, but I need something positive this morning to think about and anticipate in the future. I decided to share photos of a trip Steve and I made several years ago to Fairhope, Gulf Shores, and Orange Beach. We love the warmth and the sunshine, but we REALLY love the seafood followed by a slice of Key Lime Pie. Here are some places you might want to consider for your next trip to the Gulf.

Fairhope might just be the prettiest small town in Alabama. I love the care the townspeople give to making their downtown attractive, and of course, they have that wonderful Mobile Bay.

We enjoyed eating at Sunset Pointe at Fly Creek Marina. The views of the water and the incredible boats coupled with great food make it a great dining option, in my opinion.

On the way from Fairhope to the Gulf, I suggest you check out Bluegill Restaurant in Spanish Fort. It's on the Causeway very close to the U.S.S. Alabama Battleship Memorial Park. Great views, atmosphere, and food.

The Gulf itself is the focal point for visitors with its hypnotic waves, powdery white sand, and fascinating shore life.

In Gulf Shores, a casual place with great food is Beach House Kitchen and Cocktails. This may seem random, but they served the best black beans I'd ever tasted. Seriously. The fresh lime juice made all the difference. Great seafood and Key Lime Pie, too.

A very special restaurant in Orange Beach is Fisher's, located at the Orange Beach Marina. Whether you choose to dine upstairs or dockside, you will be served the amazing dishes of Chef Bill Briand, who has been a James Beard semi-finalist multiple times. Oh, my mouth is watering!

While you're on the Alabama Gulf Coast, may I also recommend BuzzCatz Coffee and Sweets, Ruby Slipper Cafe, and Brick and Spoon for a yummy breakfast and Doc's Seafood Shack and Oyster Bar or King Neptune's Seafood Restaurant for a reasonably-priced lunch.

Have you made plans for Spring Break? Do you have your summer vacation scheduled and your condo reserved? Consider some of these eateries when you go. Tell me about your favorites.

Now I feel better, don't you?
