My Place to "Be"

Everyone needs a spot, a place to just "be," don't you think?
This happens to be mine, and I love it.

My desk is rarely this neat, but it is today.
There's a chair in the corner where Steve can sit whenever he wants to come in and share what's on his mind or ask what's on mine.
I can look out the windows and watch the activities in our cul-de-sac. It helps me remember to pray for my neighbors.
I have a painting done by my long-time friend Kay Dekalb Smith.
I have shelves in my desk for many of the cookbooks I have collected over the years.
I have a framed poster of my favorite bird, the roseate spoonbill. Explanation to come in a future post.
I have flowers on my desk picked just this morning from my yard. They make me appreciate Steve's love for yardwork and planting things.
I have a prissy light fixture that gives the room a feminine touch.
To my left (not in this photo), I have shelves with family photos, pretty shells from Sanibel Island, and mementoes that remind me of happy times. A blue vase that was a wedding gift to my parents in 1949. A photo of Steve and me cutting our wedding cake. Mugs from the Christmas markets in Europe. A couple of music boxes in the shape of pianos.
At this desk, I have written three books, dozens of blog posts, and hundreds of emails. I have ordered way too many things during Amazon Prime Days, but I've also ordered Christmas gifts for the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
This desk is where I sit most often to study the Bible. It's a good desk. When I'm gone, I hope someone will get it who will do good things when they sit at it.
There are other places in our home that make me smile -- cooking in the kitchen, talking with friends in the breakfast room or around the dining room table, sitting on the back porch watching the trees, birds, and squirrels, curling up with Steve in our loveseat-recliners to watch Auburn or one of our favorite shows, making music at the piano, listening to the grandchildren play in the rec room upstairs, or climbing into our own bed when we return from a trip. Is there anything better? It's a happy house. It suits us.
Anyway, I just wanted to share this view of my study, my spot, my place to "be."
I'd love to hear about yours.
