Overnight at City Harbor

We couldn't let our 52nd anniversary go by uncelebrated. We wanted to do something special, yet low-key, relaxing, and within an easy drive. City Harbor in Guntersville was the perfect solution.

CITY HARBOR SUITES

We booked an overnight stay at City Harbor Suites and were treated to a two-bedroom, two-bathroom, condo with a full kitchen, a comfortable sitting area, and a lovely balcony overlooking Lake Guntersville. It was impeccably clean, attractively decorated, and extremely relaxing. Win, win, win.

A huge plus was getting to park once (free parking), taking the elevator to our room, then having restaurants on-site for both dinner in the evening and breakfast the next morning. The check-in process is contactless. You are sent a code and all the pertinent details shortly before check-in time.

BIG MIKE'S STEAKHOUSE

Big Mike's Steakhouse is WONDERFUL!! Three friends began the concept of bringing great steaks to rural towns in Thomasville. Their first success has led to five more locations: Andalusia, Orange Beach, Moundville, Auburn, and now Guntersville. Raw oysters are always a hit for Steve and me, and the steak we ordered lived up to the hype.

ANOTHER BROKEN EGG CAFE

After a wonderful night's sleep, all we had to do was take the elevator downstairs to Another Broken Egg Cafe for a great breakfast. The menu is full of enticing options. I was adventurous and ordered the Mardi Gras Omelet, full of crawfish, shrimp, and andouille, while Steve went more traditional with scrambled eggs, sausage, and fruit. Naturally, he wanted to taste some of mine. :)

Following breakfast, we had plenty of time for more boat- and bird-watching before checking out at 11:00. We browsed the spring displays at Home Re-Decor in the City Harbor complex then headed to Gunter Avenue for more browsing and shopping.

ROCK HOUSE EATERY

Our final stop was lunch at Rock House Eatery. It's a quirky place with a great atmosphere. We shared a pizza and a generous serving of Pina Colada Cake -- after all, it was our anniversary, right? And this was a great way to end our getaway.

We came home feeling refreshed and renewed. I can heartily recommend City Harbor and the rest of Guntersville for a fun overnight.
