From Arizona Back to Alabama: Fun in Waco

It has been a very good day.

My first photo op was with a statue of a roadrunner measuring 11 feet tall and 22 feet long. Roadrunners (actual birds) are spotted frequently around Fort Stockton, Texas, so this one -- named Paisano Pete -- has been the perfect town mascot since 1980. Pete was the largest roadrunner in the world until Las Cruces, New Mexico, erected a larger one in 1993.

We drove -- with only three short stops -- from 7:30 a.m. until 2:15 p.m. when we arrived at Magnolia Market at the Silos on Webster Avenue in Waco, Texas. The next few hours were bliss for me, and my Silver Fox tolerated it extremely well. Bless him. This location was the brainchild of Chip and Joanna Gaines, stars of "Fixer Upper," a popular show on HGTV. In addition to the large Magnolia Market, you can also browse six boutiques and a rug and furniture store. Food trucks sell a variety of foods, a coffee shop keeps you caffeinated, and Silos Baking Company offers delectable sweet treats.

In case you're wondering, I found some things that NEEDED to go home with me. :)

Dinner tonight was at Saltgrass Steakhouse. The food was great, but the fellowship was a highlight of our trip. David and Leigh (Quinn) Moseman have lived in Waco for many years, but thirty-five years ago, I played the piano for their wedding in Hartselle, Alabama. We've known Leigh's family since we moved to Hartselle in 1973. Her parents were role models for Steve and me, and she and her siblings are some of our favorite people. David is well-known on the Baylor University campus as Dr. Moseman, professor of religion and senior lecturer. We love them dearly and are so grateful that their schedules allowed them to share a few hours with us.

Our goal for the next two days is getting home to Alabama. No reservations. No specific agenda. We'll just continue to enjoy the landscape and be mighty happy to drive down our street and onto our driveway.
